The events on offer are aimed at everyone, initiates and non-initiates alike; the emphasis is on the cultural and historical aspect, with an original and aesthetic program of jazz and improvised music (concerts, meetings, aperitifs, picnics and snacks, workshops, master-classes, jam sessions)… In terms of programming, we’ll be in a world of jazz fusion and young composers: You’ll discover, for example, the SARAB Group on tour throughout Europe, two jazz guitarists in vogue on the international scene at the moment Romain PILON and Johan LEIJONHUFVUD, double bassist and singer Naïma GIROU and many other rich moments to experience Live in Gaillac.
A lively jazz festival After more than 100 years of existence, the history of jazz is punctuated by different currents that have led to the constant evolution of this music. Originally derived from the blues, jazz music still possesses one important characteristic: the predominant use of improvisation. Through vocal, spiritual and blues folklore, and a few memories of African percussion, the specific animation of swing and a certain number of themes that would belong to Afro-American music were developed. At the end of the 19th century, this folklore emerged simultaneously in several parts of the southern United States. Born of the meeting of different cultures, a music woven through the ages, jazz lends itself, by its very nature, to the most unexpected experiments, fusions and associations. The essential music of the 20th century, Afro-American music is first and foremost a popular artistic expression, with an incredible liberating force, but also a veritable crossroads of ideas, forms and representations. For 2022, the association is planning a season of events, including a highlight on the 3rd weekend in September, with the unmissable CocoJazz festival, which extends the summer season and promises tasty cuisine combining jazz with cinema, dance and the graphic arts, as well as meetings and debates, workshops, jazz aperitifs, concerts… to fully savour this living, constantly evolving music.
