The benefits of connecting with nature

Les bienfaits de la connexion avec la nature

Being surrounded by nature generates immediate physiological and neurobiological benefits for our organism, reducing stress, cortisol and anxiety processes.

When we take a walk in nature, we instinctively produce dopamine and endorphins, which give us an immediate feeling of well-being.

By simply walking at the edge of nature, we take time to reflect, we’re more concentrated and focused on our thoughts. As a result, we notice an increase in our cognitive performance.

Research has shown that if we were interviewing for a job, we’d be more effective in a park than in an office! In fact, we should be working with our brains, not forcing them into a system that doesn’t necessarily suit them.

After decompressing, we invite you to come and unwind in our beautiful, soothing countryside at Les Cottages du Tarn between Albi and Toulouse. Enjoy the fresh air, country paths, woods and forests for physical and psychological rejuvenation.

Combining pleasure, emotions and the search for meaning.

We understand that we are predisposed to be in contact with natural environments. The environment in which we evolve will influence us emotionally, perceptually, cognitively and physiologically. As soon as we see a natural environment, or find ourselves in nature, our parasympathetic system will reflexively lower our heart rate, providing us with a relaxing effect of well-being (physiological effect). All our 5 senses (sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste) are stimulated by nature, with a palette of different colors, sounds, smells… All these sensory mobilities awaken positive thoughts in us. In short, it’s excellent for our health to go green to see life in pink and avoid brooding!

Every human being needs to be listened to and cared for. At Le Cottage du Tarn, we invite you to let yourself be pampered in the hands of professional, caring practitioners at our l’Art de Bien-Etre space in Peyrole, close to all our gîtes. You’ll discover massages, foot and  palm réflexologie, Sophrologie discovery sessions or support to be in symbiosis with your breathing, massages crâniens or why not coaching to boost your steps or projects…

How can nature improve our brain function?

Nature can improve our cognitive abilities, and in particular our memory and attention. Research has shown that spending an hour in nature can improve our attention span by 20%. We can therefore advise children and teenagers to take a break in nature, rather than locking themselves away to work, because it’s really beneficial. In short, it’s a completely unconscious process on the part of our brain. So let’s make the most of it and combine obligations with pleasure!

How does it work ?

Researchers believe that when we use our attention for an intellectual task, this requires effort, willpower and really exhausting attention. Conversely, when we’re out in nature, we can have our attention captured by a landscape, a sky, a lake, a tree, and this fascination with nature will in fact be a totally automatic orientation of attention that enables us to recover our attentional capacities when we need to use them voluntarily.

The environment can therefore influence our behavior. In urban areas, we’re seeing more and more green spaces and trees. Indeed, urban planners have clearly understood that inserting green spaces into dense urban environments, and particularly in housing estates or groups of buildings, can really reduce aggression, incivilities and anti-social behavior.

The only thing you need to do to regain your well-being is to get back to the source, to the countryside, to walks in the forest, to the open air to revise your lessons, to prepare for an interview on the terrace of an open-air gîte, to reactivate your 5 senses in the heart of nature… Pure happiness to recharge your batteries and get away from today’s external aggressions.

We look forward to meeting you,

Cathy & Martial Chandeysson
