Why is hiking good for your health ?

la randonnée pédestre pour la santé

Hiking improves breathing capacity, bone density and muscle mass in the legs, buttocks and abdominal muscles. It helps prevent the onset of cardiovascular disease by improving cholesterol levels and blood pressure. It promotes blood circulation and dilates the arteries.

The Comité Départemental de la Randonnée Pédestre du Tarn 81 is the link between Tarn hiking associations and the Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre. Together with its partners, it contributes to the development of hiking in the Tarn region, at the heart of the Occitanie region. You can choose between Nordic walking and healthy hiking.

Is it possible to go hiking or Nordic walking at Les Cottages du Tarn ?

Yes, we’ve prepared some great itineraries for you if you want to hike and enjoy the beautiful countryside around your Cottages du Tarn gite.

At Peyrole, your accommodation is in the heart of nature, with horses and sheep. You can walk or cycle a short distance (less than 4 km), and even bring your pet.

If you prefer a longer distance, we can suggest a route of around twelve kilometers.

On these walks, you’ll be immersed in nature, crossing wooded edges. You’ll feel the freshness of the trees. You’ll discover the charm of small country hamlets; a stable where little calves will be delighted to greet you as you pass. During your hike, you’ll be charmed by magnificent, soothing vistas of seasonal colors. You can also pack a picnic lunch to fully appreciate every moment, and relax with an impromptu siesta somewhere in the heart of nature. Your vacation at Les Cottages du Tarn is an ideal opportunity to improve your health through physical activity, while enjoying the abundance of oxygen in the forests and countryside.
What’s more, studies have shown that all the molecules emitted by trees boost our immune defences!

Confinement is finally over. Take advantage of this opportunity to recharge your batteries and do yourself some good.

Hiking is good for morale and reduces symptoms of depression. Walking improves mood, self-esteem, stress control, sleep and concentration.

The WHO specifies that physical activity should be part of everyone’s daily health.

What’s more, walking while admiring the beautiful scenery is just the thing, isn’t it ?

What does hiking have to offer ?

Did you know that walking at least 15 minutes a day can change your life?

Walking improves mental health, relieves back pain, lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of stroke, tones the arms, strengthens the abs, improves knee flexibility, slims the hips, reduces the risk of blood clots and strengthens the body’s joints. That’s why the WHO recommends walking 30 minutes a day, or hiking 1 or 2 times a week!

Nordic walking is good for burning calories. Walking burns between 200 and 400 kilo-calories per hour, while Nordic walking burns up to 700 kilo-calories per hour.

How do you feel after a hike ?

It instantly relaxes the mind and spirit. It makes you feel tired and liberated.  Hiking is suitable for people with health problems (cardio-vascular concerns, overweight, illness…). It’s also a good way to get back into the swing of things and get some physical exercise. It’s important to note that for older people, regular walking helps combat muscle loss, improves balance and reduces the risk of falls.

Walking doesn’t require any special equipment, apart from loose-fitting, supple clothing to avoid discomfort, and shoes that provide good ankle support.

There’s a saying that goes: you have to take 100 steps after eating !

Walking activates all the muscles in our digestive system. Walking also stimulates all the digestive juices in the stomach, with muscle wave contractions that act directly on our transit.

Should I go barefoot ?

Our current lifestyles cut us off from this connection to the earth through the telluric flow. Biologically, human beings need to have their feet in contact with the earth to benefit from the regulating effects on our entire endocrine and nervous systems. At home, we can walk barefoot to indirectly feel the earth’s energetic flow. But, as you’ll have understood, the ideal is to walk barefoot in the fresh grass of your gîte’s lawn, in a field, on moss in a forest or on the banks of a lake near Les Cottages du Tarn.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home and helping you discover our beautiful Occitan countryside…

See you soon!
